I was watching Man Vs Food and he was in Detroit eating hotdogs. What I found odd was that the places where he was eating them steamed the hotdog buns. I would have assumed that would have made them soggy and unpleasant.

Anyway the next time we're having hotdogs I might try it. Does anyone have a good method for doing this or has anyone tried it?

BTW, from the title of your post I was hoping that you'd be able to send some hot dog buns (hopefully with their contents) through to my router. Alas, it seems that it was only a typo :(

Afraid so Buen, sorry about that. Thanks for the link. There may even be chili dogs menu tonight.
Steaming bread? Uggh I'm sorry but that sounds terrible! Surely the best way to have hotdog or burger buns is slightly toasted and not waterlogged and soggy?

Wouldn't the roll and it's contents just fall apart in your fingers all over your clothes?
nope, in catering, stale soft bread and rolls can be revived with steam
Really woofgang? I've always thrown my hard bread out and never thought of softening it with steam to revive it. Is that what you mean?

Could I do this in the steamer without making it soft and soggy?

I hate soggy bread which is the reason I can't eat bread and butter pudding without gagging
well you can do it on the oven wrapped in foil, sprinkle the bread with water then wrap loosely in foil and put in a pre warmed medium oven for 5 to 10 minutes.

I tried it by putting the buns in a steamer over the hotdogs for around a minute near the end of cooking. I have to say they turned out really soft and not soggy which is what I would have assumed, like Henrietta.

Who knew?
