Microwave Meals

I feel I should hang my head in shame asking this but needs must!

I have ten days without a proper kitchen. I had resigned myself to a week of ready meals and as I tuck into my chicken Madras I am losing the will to live.

I had thought that the likes of a curry would be a safe bet :-(

I've seen fresh vegetables and fish meals that are presumably steamed in the microwave, has anyone tried them? Comments appreciated.

Any recommendations for a complete ready meal meal that can be nuked?

It is going to be a very long ten days at this rate :-(

Why not buy a camping stove with 2 burners and a grille? you would need the gas bottle as well of course but a stove can be bought for around £35.
Oh dear...are you having a new kitchen?

Have had very few microwave meals but apparently oe cn cook near enough anything in them.
Found this :

Happy cooking!!!
Pot Noodles are good stand bys.;-)
All the supermarkets have ready meals that can be microwaved.
They range from economy to luxury.
When we have them we tend to prefer the pasta ones.
Salads are good in this weather too and you can always buy potato sald to bulk things up a bit.

Treat your self to something like the above, I managed for months when having building work done, along with kettle and microwave it's amazing what you can turn out
Maybe a little forethought and you could have prepared your own meals, frozen them and reheated in microwave?
Pot Noodles...YUK!!! the smell is enough to put anyone off...my son likes them though
that is what I thought gingebee

I have 4-6 bags of bolognese

6 bags of home made veg soup

some bags of chicken curry

some cartons of home made lasagne

So when I am peckish I just defrost.
Bully for you two.

I'm really not wanting to bother with camping stoves as that won't really help me.

To had to the inconvenience I have little in the way of refrigeration so I need to buy on a day to day basis, not easy for one person.

Do any of the supermarkets still have salad bars? Waitrose and Sainsburys used to but I haven't seen them for a while?

I hope I won't have to resort to a Not Poodle Mamya!

Thanks Gingebee for the suggestion, but not helpful in this situation.
I don't know how or why you are doing without a fridge as when I was getting my new kitchen I was concerned re the food I would be losing but the guys worked around the old fridge and when it was time for new fridge to go in the men took the stuff from old fridge to new along with frozen. They run the new fridge in the hall - it was truly great.
You poor thing, with the profession that you're in I feel that there will be no ready meals that would pass muster to you. :(

10 days of take outs are not very appealing either, are they?
If it is a new kitchen(u did not say)...just think how happy you will be with it ...the little inconvenience will be worth it.!!! Oh,and your fridge can be put elsewhere and usuable in the meantime.

Not a new kitchen just an unusual set of circumstances.

Rocky, I might view the next ten days as a kind of boot camp :-)
Ok,whatever it is...hope all goes well and you cope with your meals.

Eccles, at our holiday home I only use the microwave. Ok, so it's an all singing all dancing one with oven and grill but I do tend to mainly use only the microwave part.
Ive found the best way of using it is to make one pot type meals, just as you would with an oven. They don't come out quite as nice but are still very edible, and as you're such a good cook anyway I'm sure you can come up with lots of lovely one pot type things, much nicer than I do.
I make spag Bol, chilli, any kind of casserole you can think of which involves any and all veg and meat. And fish too. I also have a small plastic bucket type thing with a clip on lid for a few £££s to do rice or pasta in the micro, which is very successful, I got it in Robert dyas but I'm sure they have them in lots of places.
Personally I wouldn't bother with ready meals to shove in, they're nowhere near as nice or healthy although useful in an emergency.
You've got loads of imagination regarding food, I'm sure you can do lots of lovely tasty things once you get your head round it. If you have any great successes I'd love to hear about them ;)
