What To Serve With My Fillet Steak?

We're having friends round for dinner on Thursday, an annual event very much looked forward to by all. We're going to cook a lovely fillet on the BBQ (we're not eating outdoors though), and I'd love to hear any ideas on what to serve with it. All suggestions gratefully received:-)

A tomato, red onion and avocado salad on a bed of leaves dressed with a vibrant lemon dressing and some new potatoes in a coriander, chilli and lime butter.
I would serve it simply - with a garlic butter dressing, some button mushrooms cooked in garlic and soy sauce, and some herb potatoes (just cubed and roasted with a light spray of oil and some mixed herbs .......... if you want additional veg, I would roast some cherry tomatoes on the vine sprinkled with balsamic vinegar - I would avoid any green cooked veg and peas and boring and the other choices don't "go" in my opinion - throw together a nice leave salad with cucumber ribbons instead ............ what time do I need to be there?? :-)

Then either follow the traditional route of adding mushrooms (preferably some nice chestnut ones - or even morel, if you can get them) and chips, or go for sliced green beans with sautéed potatoes.

Ecclescake -have you the recipe for that chili lime coriander butter please?
Oh some vegtable kebabs...mushroom, onion, courgette,tomato ,any thing one can squewer ! Daphniose Potatoes.
I am bringing the wine !
Boil new potatoes, when cooked drain and return to saucepan.

To the pan add a good knob of butter, a finely chopped red chilli, zest and juice of a lime and some chopped fresh coriander, give the pan a good shuggle to combine before serving.
This butter goes really well with sweet corn. Just combine all the butter ingredients in a bowl with a fork, shape into a roll and refrigerate. Cut discs off to serve with new season sweet corn.
thanks Eccles -I have all those ingredients except the lime growing in my garden -we will be having that for dinner tomorrow -cheers!
Eccles that sounds lovely, I'm going to try that. horseshoes I'm drooling at the thought of BBQ steak, however I do like the Diane sauce on my steak with Eccles' new pots and salad.

But for the garlic, which I am allergic to, my mouth is watering just reading the posts.
serve any sauces on the side, a good piece of meat like fillet does not require anything too complicated,
Just had sweetcorn tonight and done it with the lime and chili beurre et delish!
what else are you cooking on the barbie horseshoes, or could you cook? I'm just thinking why be faffing between that and the stove?

Nothing else on the BBQ, just LOVE steak bbqued.
The moment I see some English sweet corn I'll be devouring the stuff, getting a bit impatient........

right o horseshoes, we use a charcoal barbie, so it's what else can get cooked in parcels/at the same time
Forget using Fillet steak. Of all the steaks it is the most tasteless. It will be tender but it will have no flavour. Try Rib Eye steak half the price and a miles better flavour
mackerel in parcels,.....small bed of shallots, leeks, carrots and mushroom, splash of white wine and Noilly Prat, chilli for those who like it, the packet made in alu foil and on the bbq for circa 10 -15 minutes depending on heat - and I too love sweetcorn on the q.
