Wine of the Week

Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Fairtrade SA Cabernet Sauvignon 14%

A richly intense red bursting with gorgeous aromas of ripe bramble fruits and flavours of juicy blackberries and plums. Meaty, well-structured and drier than your average red, it's a perfect partner for lamb tagine or rib of beef.

Available for the offer price of £7.49 (down from £9.99).

Now folks, I'm driving up to see Mum tomorrow and need to get a nice bottle of bubbly. Anybody know of any offers on bubbly this week?

Finally, for the true beer and ale aficionados, please see Redman's excellent Beer Of The Week Thread below:

Just another thought - Sainsburys have the Excellent Hendricks Gin on offer at £19.99 (down from £24.99).
Etienne Dumond champagne nv (sold only in Sainsburys) is on offer for £15.99 (from £31.99). It`s not something I would get if I wanted a nice (first)bottle for christmas or a birthday but it`s not bad at all as `back-up`. I`m going to get a couple of bottles and keep them for N Year. It` on offer until 9th Oct.
Dumont (not Dumond)
I'm less into the drier ones now-a-days, but I still have the bottle of last week's recommendation to try. (I really must not be so tardy, and drink more alcohol more often.)

Indeed you must, OG. ;)

Thanks, 237. I'll take a look. I found your FAO in drinks btw.
Did you write the review for him as it was so in your style, NoM

Have a great weekend.....just off to buy my plonk, the Domaine de Montagne Auteil from Thon....
They have a McGuigans Merlot reduced fro £10.99 to £5.49 at the moment. Had anyone tried it at the original price, or indeed bought it at this price. Still time to change my order.....
Will take a look next time we are in Sainsbury's NoMercy.
Love the Full-bodied Wines, both Red and White
Thanks for mentioning Beer of the Week, we are off to the Wellington and Post Office Vaults today to try some more !! :-))

Thank for the tip, Angel. McGuigan for some nice wines.

You might like the cab sauv then, Redman. Very meaty and expressive.

What Will you be serving it with, DT?
White wine of the year at lunchtime, an old family friend who is somewhat a connoisseur.............a Sauvignon Quarz from the Cantina Terlano.

It's a commune wine from several small holdings in the furthest north of Italy with the vineyard high up clinging to an old glacial cliff and the starkness of the terrain reflected in the austerity of the wine. Absolutely stunning and I have just looked it up, a price tag to match (£30+) but a hell of a treat. Now it's either that or the Howard Park's Allegory from Western Oz for Christmas if I can get my sticky fingers on some.

I know it's rheotorical but can I justify the former?
No idea with the red yet, NoM.....
My wine of the week is definitely Bombay Sapphire Gin..................on sale at Tesco at the mo for £17 per litre (which is £10 off the normal price)
McGuigan Shiraz Viognier 2011, half price last week in tesco. Unfortunately gone back up to normal this week, wish I'd bought loads. Very tasty and fruity but oh, so velvety smooth, mmmmm...
Must have a look at their Merlot.
Question Author
Thanks for that, Craft. I was hoping that would be on offer somewhere. :-)

Funny that, ethandron. I was toying with the idea of getting that one. Should've got it when it was on offer.

Wow, DT, that sounds awesome. I think you can treat yourself for xmas!

Mum and I have a bottle of Veuve for tonight. :)
Those thieving b`stds at Sainsburys have now reduced the Etienne Dumont to £12 (just after I bought three bottles at £15.99 yesterday)
Makutu Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is at Sainsburys at the mo. Down to £5.49 from £10.99 although I don`t trust the `original` prices in these deals. It`s not bad at all. Tastes of gooseberries and a tropical fruit that I can`t quite place - possibly mango.
passion fruit, 237 SJ, it's often that.....
Could well be DT. Definitely something tropical.
or lychee?

It's quite well reviewed - may see if they have some down here.....can't go too far wrong on that price.
