We had a Chicken Korma Curry for our evening meal made and doctored by mei courtesy of a jar of Korma sauce from Morrisons .Boil in the bag Basmati rice .
It was very tasty .But we just ate it and that as that .
I've been cooking for my family for nearly forty years, although it's now just us two mostly and I also used to cook for a living .I used to enjoy cooking but I find it a total chore these days .
I'm of the generation that can stretch a chicken or joint of meat for a week yet these days I have no motivation and I buy all sorts of ready chopped veg etc . Mainly due to fumble fingers although I'm not an advocate of the ready meal culture either .
Do any of you people of my age (64) get cheesed off with cooking every day and wondering what to cook ? I wish I could win the lottery and not have to worry about it :)

I'm just a mere whipper snapper and only been doing it for 27 years but I hate it.
I hate it being my responsability to have to decide what we are eating, go buy the stuff and then to have to cook it, every ruddy day. Don't do ready meals and ususally make a desert or have some cake made, I must be mad. I hate cooking but I love eating so as no one else will do it I suppose I'm stuck with the job.
Yes, me too, but as there is only me now I very often have ready meals. They are a boon to the single person. There is one problem, they are not very big - for a man you might need two.
Me too shaney...I used to do a dinner every day from scratch, I made pastries, cakes, puddings, never saw it as a chore...and it was all eaten without complaint!

Now I'm the same as Starbuck, I tend to think a good quality ready meal is better than a snack. I don't have two dinners but I've been known to have two puddings :o)
Me too. I don't mind choosing but hate having to actually doing the cooking. My old cook retired in January so am really fed up now.
life's too short to stuff a mushroom. God has given us Sainsbury's lasagnes, so we should eat them.

Okay, not for breakfast probably.
I am 64 and used to cook for a living also, the joy when I found ready chopped onions. I must also admit to ready grated carrot last week. When you watch the programmes with everyone wanting a bigger kitchen I just think you don't need that much room for a microwave. Pleased it's just not me.
I tend to divorce cooking from catering. I cook for fun when i feel like it and the rest of the time I live on the easy stuff..basically whatever I fancy provided it comes out as healthy over the course of a week.
oh the joy of ready done potato, swede & carrot mash :) I can't chop swede any more and my kitchen's not big enough for a load of gadgets.. that's my excuse.

I'm soooo glad I'm not alone :)
elsewhere on here, the myths (or not) of religion are discussed. No one has ever addressed the bigger myths by which I mean The Joy of Catering for a Family and The Joy of Housework.
Yep shaney, it doesn't help that when I was a child, eating a meal was like a fuelling station, not a social event.
I might be somewhat younger and a chef but I hate thinking up mid week meals. I find it really difficult to think up something interesting that can realistically be cooked for two people with out loads of waste or a lot of left overs.

I have no problem with ready meals and cook in sauces if they give people the confidence to try new foods and ingredients that they might then be inspired to try to cook from scratch and perfect to their own taste.
I love to cook but havent for a good many years Granddad G was a chief cook in the Royal Navy and then did it for a living when he came out andd he still enjoys it. When I gave someone my recipe for cauliflower cheese at work they said ooh can you cook - of course I can bL**dy cook - I felt a bit miffed. I'm not averse to the odd ready meal - even a pot noodle or two but not all the time - Same age as you shaney

Mr S... ..having been fed and watered ....has just mooched in here and said to me ..."What are we having for dinner tomorrow ?" .....Hahaa.....
I can count on the fingers of one hand the things I cook well. I hate it. I like meals you can cook in one pot like soup, mince, stew, gulasch etc. Throw it all in the pressure cooker and ready in minutes.
Luckily Mr.T loves to cook, although beware of what we call his experimental cuisine ;-)
Am working thru Jamies 30min meals. Done the salmon, beef & yorkies, chkn satay & invested in a food processor to make more. They're excellent! I even bought fresh herbs :)

Yo ..tara ..Grüß Gott !
I'm a soup fan too especially ein leckere Linsensuppe !
Hope you are feeling a bit better now xxx
Getting there, Shaney, getting there.
I have been cooking meals for the past 52 years and I'm heartily sick of doing so, even trying to find something different is a chore. Mrask isn't a fan of ready made meals from a supermarket. He likes his steak pies, Yorkshires, and roasts cooked fresh. I love eating out but he would rather eat at home. He does like pasta which is quick to do, I don't like pasta much, so on those rare occasions he will have pasta with garlic bread, and I'll have stir fry. And I hate washing up too.
