wtf is a scone

to me it is a pastry but the daughter has just called me stupid but hasn't answered my question ....so what do you class them as ?

I've always thought it was a plain cake baked in the oven or on a griddle.I say scone as in stone,as I originally come from Staffordshire.

haven;t had that with ages, i'm sure she used to put cheddar on it as well. we def had cheddar with fruit cake
