I forgot to add as i couldn't remember the word earlier "Snooty"
.... and ..... breathe
Does it really matter to anyone?
"top classed establishment". Where`s that then?
Your friends sound like wine snobs, not wine buffs.

Thank you hpkirk that's another one "Oh we need to let the wine breathe and aerate for it to taste agreeable"

I don't follow all this tosh either, meenah, but I do remember being made to feel an outcast when I was younger, because I rarely drink - and being made to feel a weirdo because I stuck to soft drinks. To me, if I do have a glass of wine, I either like it or I don't - I don't care about blackberry undertones and all that stuff.

''Am i the only one that feels constantly bullied, shunned and to be made to feel inferior''
Drink what you like... and get a back bone perhaps.
Is it really that important?

237SJ sorry just to clarify, the snooty snobbery and condescending sly fingerpointing and chuckles are coming from other tables
^^ that is true though - red wine ought to meet the air before you drink it.
Just ignore them, and satisfy yourself with the thought that it is they who have the problem - not you.
Other tables? Tell them to mind their own business, I though this was your friends behaving like this!
By the way, welcome to AB, Meenah.

LOL do you feel better now thats off your chest? ive always hated wine, and yep ive seen em when they do the blindfold test and chose the cheap wine lol.... i just made similar comments to yours on my thread in cb..... though i was saying it in fun but i do agree it turns some people into snobs..... it could be worse though.... my ex used to drink it a lot ... put a glass of wine in his hand and he turned from a big muscly cropped haired bloke into a blooming flamboyant camp twit lol

There are a lot of people who think they`re experts on wine. Especially French wines. There are a few myths too. The "letting red wine breathe" theory is not proved. When the cork is removed, only about 1" or wine surface is exposed to air. If you decant you can get more air in but it`s a bit of a grey area. A colleague of mine is a Master of Wines and he`d be the last person to be snobby about wine.

Well i can get to sleep at night pastafreak so no it's not that important but it still really irritates me.
Snags, a backbone, in which sense? I'm not very confrontational so i couldn't confront them and wouldn't anyway.
Pdust that's another thing everyone thinks that drinking wine instantly raises your class a few notches however this isn't the case at all and if anything those trying to be something they're not come over as even worse.
For a really good wine, esp a red, they do benefit by pouring into a decanter and let them aerate.
Look Meenah, you are being somewhat unfair. There's a lot of us out there who love drinking wine and enjoy it, but that doesn't mean all of us (and I would add most of us) do not look down at our noses at someone who prefers a beer, a soft drink or whatever poison grabs you. It's your choice, your palate and for some it's medical, such as they can't take the sulfite crystals in some wines, but there are an increasing number of good organic wines appearing.

Welcome to AB, Meenah - an interesting first post.
I do take your point that your palate is your own, but would you not at least acknowledge that there are certain combinations of food which go together better than other combinations?
E.g. a ripe Camembert is so much better with a fruity red wine than with even the finest white wine.
