Simple Recipe Ideas

I need some help.

I now fend for myself and I'm not sure how long I will survive on eating chicken or tuna sandwiches for dinner.

I need some simple recipe ideas. The problem is I am ultra fussy! It's pretty much just textures of foods I have a problem with, for example I like the taste of mushrooms but I can't stand the feel of eating one, it makes me want to throw up. On the plus side, I don have a hand blender. :)

I don't have a freezer so anyting I make has to be from fridge/cupboard stuffs and leftovers that don't need freezing.

Any ideas? My Dad will ask me soon what I've been eating and he always knows when I'm lying :)

Good resource here...

Simple pasta dishes :

Cook some spirals or tubes, stir in sour cream or creme fraiche, add some protein (smoked salmon is good, so are crispy bacon bits, spicy chorizo etc etc) eat with some garlic bread
I'd recommend buying Delia Smith's "One is Fun" cookbook
Get yourself a copy of Delia Smith's One is Fun. A fantastic book, takes into consideration that you don't want to have the oven burning for 90mins for just one spud and takes short cuts to quickly and efficiently get food on the table.
And if Mrs O recommends it it must be good ;-)

Note to self...type faster....

Lol, maybe I'll get one of the people asking for ideas for house warming pressies to buy that for me then. :)

Pasta I can manage Dave, good idea.

Thanks Mamy, I'll look through the link a little later and see if I can find some inspiration.
'One is Fun' is good ... just make sure you get the Delia version ... there are similar titles available which are not recipe based :+)

Lol Dave, I know! I just type it into Amazon and got some interesting results.
My son's favourite - cheesy ham pasta.
Boil what ever pasta you fancy. While boiling grate a load of cheese and thinly slice a few slices of ham. When pasta is cooked stir in knob of butter, then slowly add the grated cheese and the ham, stirring it all in together. takes ten mins tops and is delicious!
Leek and potato soup - hot in cool weather, cold in warm weather. Can be dressed with allsorts of things (cream, crispy bacon bits etc.) and is simple to make, very nutritious and very tasty.
stir frys are cheap and easy to make
Beans on toast

Take 2 slices of bread , toast them
Pour hot baked beans over toast.

Delicious.
Tomatoes on toast

Take 2 slices of bread , toast them
Pour hot tomatoes over toast.

Delicious .
If these delicious recipes are a bit complicated, I have others .
I've never warmed to Delia Smith...maybe she does not come across as some one who loves her food.

My choice for a cook book would be Nigel Slater's "Real Fast Food"...nothing too complicated-all could be done in 30 minutes. Some are simple-like his variations on grilled chicken and the sandwiches you can make. Others are a bit more complicated, like my fav-Mozzarella Chicken with Pesto Gravy...but still very quick to do.

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

I would also recommend you get a freezer if at all possible-even second hand. It will-at the very least-allow you to take advantage of good prices on meat and poultry.
Couscous couldn't be easier, I put fried chorizo, fried cherry toms and balsamic vinegar in mine, lush.
would also recommend you get a freezer

Bad advice IMO Pasta, she would fill it will ready meals. (I'mnot having a dig Evan ) i don't think a single person needs a freezer, stick to a fridge and fresh food.
I'm hoping Mick has a recipe for spaghetti on toast, I've been wondering how to make that for ages.
:0). With or without those little sausages Chuck ?
