Bibblebub, thats what im saying, why do I have a fluid oz on my digital scales if it is not a weight?
|
|
One pint = 20 fl oz = 568 ml
For water 1 fl oz does actually weigh 1 oz ("The imperial fluid ounce is equivalent to the volume occupied by 1 imperial ounce of water weighed in air at 62 °F") So for a denser liquid (eg sugar syrup) 1 fl oz will weigh more than 1 oz, but for a lighter liquid (eg petrol) 1 fl oz will weigh less than 1 oz. |

sunny dave, so what you are saying is weighing a fluid oz is not a exact measurement but a guestimate based on the weight of water.

I'd stick to pints Ratter...with a nice big head on the top !

Correct - unless your scales have some way of you inputting the type of item you are weighing.

Water, milk, eggs, butter - 1 fluid oz = 1 oz. For converting fl oz to weights for other ingredients, there are conversion calculators such as...

I suspect it is all rather academic. The recipe will state how many fluid ounces of the ingredient you need to measure.
