In the omnium. Whilst gold would have been the icing on the cake he came second to a deserving winner (and nice guy to boot) in Vivian.
Cav being Cav he won't be overly chuffed coming second, he's always been a win-or-nothing type, that's his character but he's had an amazing season so far so must take the positives from it.

It was a good race, well done to the winner, but well done to Cav too.

Vivian? VIVIANI! *** tablet!
Well done Cav congratulations on your Medal
You were stitched up at the last Olympics by weasel wiggins who cost you a gold in the Madison
But well done to the flying Manxman you have done Isle of Man proud with your efforts tonight
Did anything happen about him riding into that other chap who went off on the stretcher?

I'm really pleased for him.well deserved
Great silver for Cav. He's got an Olympic medal at last. Of course he'd have loved Gold, but he gave his all and the better guy won.

I've seen arguments on FB about the crash that ended in the poor guy being stretchered off, and whether Cav was at fault. I think he just thought he'd be able to get in front of him in time, but misjudged.
Nothing was said after the race about it. Suppose these things happen when so many riders on the track at the same time jockeying for positions.
I'm surprised he didn't have some kind of penalty. Victoria Pedleton was DQed in one of her races in London for just a slight nudge from her elbow when her opponent got too close.

Crashes in track and road cycling are part and parcel, riders see them as an occupational hazard. Cav apologised, obviously deemed accidental by the judges, VivianI got up and carried on, he's professional enough to take it in his stride.
The guy who wasn't able to get up and retutn riding would undoubtedly had the same view i.e. that's cycling, $h¡t happens.
As I thought Thanks chill
