Oysters

I once had a dozen oysters in an expensive restaurant in Milan and was so ill afterwards that it took me 12 hours to recover. I did not even enjoy them.
I was told that when you squeezed lemon juice on them and they wriggled, they were safe to eat. Mine weren't.
Are there any foods that you are allergic to, or dislike?
I would be interested to compare your list with mine.

on honeymoon had 12 oysters, only 8 worked.
How long ago was "once?"
You probably had 1 bad one...or a random bug. I've eaten oysters for years. I love them. They are nice grilled as well...

I struggle with meat. I just don't like the texture.
I wouldn't want to eat anything that was alive (except on a micro/pre/pro-biotic level). I am repulsed by the idea of swallowing anything that has the potential to writhe inside me and for that reason I have never partaken in oysters.
It may be some primordial thing within me, but I feel repulsed by the idea of eating molluscs (and fungus).
Allthough I love oysters (gotta be eaten frsh, preferably in New Orleans, topewith a splach of Tobasco Sauce) you have to wonder about the first person that ever walked a beach, found an oyster, pried it open and said... "Think I'll put this in my mouth"...
I watched 'Fish fighter Hugh' eat live scallops.....on a boat, 2 mins after catching them.
did swallow a few washed down with 4 pints of guinness once in donegal, was sick for days afterwards.
^^^^ probably a bad pint
