2-3 hrs in oven is crazy. Bake lots threaded on a metal skewer on top shelf of hot oven - 30mins max.
I cook the potatoes in the microwave for 15 mins (5 pots) then finish them off in the oven for 20mins.
I stab the potatoes all over, microwave them for 6 mins for one, 10 mins for 2 and then put them in a bag with a little oil and salt and shake them.
Then I pop them in the oven for 25 minutes. Crispy and soft. Yum. |

Agree with Mojo, except after the microwave I stick them under the grill, turning them once or twice. In a few minutes they're crispy on the outside, and you save energy by not having to warm an oven.

Thank you all for your replies but no input on OXO in a tube?

Haven't seen oxo in a tube, I use bisto granules and oxo cubes. I know what
you mean though about finding something in the shops that you really like. You buy it a couple of times and it disappears without a trace. I used to love the co-op's own cheese muffins with black pepper. They were delicious and made a change from toast. The only other shop I've found who does something similar is Sainsbury's, but my nearest ones miles away. Asda also did a lovely soft cheese with pinaplple that I loved but asda hasn't had it for ages now. Was beginning to get paranoid that every time I fancied something it would disappear, lol! |

OXO: Probably not a success sales-wise.
Similar thing happened with Allbran Branbuds which I used to buy - but in this case it still seems available in USA. |
The Knoww stock pots are as good as oxo in a tube - they're like little jelly cubes that dissolve into your cooking and they are so much better than powder oxo cubes.

I meant Knorr!!!

I do my baked potatoes in the microwave as well. I think they taste much better than oven cooked. I don't eat the skins so no need for me to finish them in the oven.
Oh, and cooking one from fresh takes about the same time.

I cook jacket potatoes (on a skewer) when I am making a roast or stew. You can keep them in the fridge for about 4 days just pop in the oven or micro when you want one.
If you are having it with chilli the micro wil do ,but if you are going down the butter only route best use the oven. |
ive seen oxo i na tube and colmans do one as well
my jacket spuds - hot oven threaded onto a metal skewer 45 mins to an hour depending on size |

Did you knbow you can get Oxo reduced salt stock granules in a jar
Veg. Beef or Chicken. They are good. hje very best sock cubes have ever used an continueto use are the Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon. Exceptional. A teaspoonful in with a piece of unsmoked gammon, drips of honey and soupcon of brown sugar oh and a drip of wholegrain mustard, and boiled for 35 mins per pound, turn of 15 mins before end then cool in the water. It makes wonderful cld gammon to have with aanything you like! Or.. have it hot with parsley sauce ( made from Bisto Parsley sauce Granules with a slurp of cream added..I'm all for cheating!) |

Being a liquid you can use any amount you like. Only problem with it is that it does have a limited shelf life. Or at least you could when last I went shopping which was about 1987...... |
