London's a big place but, if you're visiting the central tourist areas, you'll find it hard to beat Bistro 1.
There are three branches. Two are in Soho, the other (which is the one I always use) is in Southampton Street, which is just off Covent Garden.
A 2-course lunch costs £6.90 but it's only a pound more (i.e. £7.90) for 3 courses. The prices for dinner are £3 dearer. (A very small number of items might incur a small supplement but the vast majority of items on the menu are available for the prices I've given).
The Southampton Street branch is certainly 'single friendly' ('cos I'm nearly always on my own) and I'm sure the other branches will also be. I've recommended Bistro 1 to many people, both in person and here on AB. Whenever I've received any feedback it's always been very positive.
Any of the Chinese restaurants in chinatown are good for eating alone as lots of people just pop in for a quick meal and they can be cheap depending on what you pick. A rice based single plate meal, for example duck, chicken or beef on rice is really cheap. Not all of the waiters are friendly but the food is usually good and you may have to share a table. Just take a newspaper/book in case you don't want to talk but you may find you are sitting with a gorgeous person or at least an interesting one.
