...in his fish pie....

Lovely meal tonight....restaurant overlooking the sea.....tables fairly close together...cosy but not cramped....and quiet music....bliss!
A couple came to sit at the next table.....elderly and obviously a new couple.....very English.....accents...dress....first holiday together I think...

He started to talk to her about the election......opinionated but quietly so...until she tried to venture her thoughts.....
He slammed both palms on the table...and still speaking fairly quietly but gruffly and measured now, told her to....Shut Up!...I am speaking!.....Please do not interrupt me until I have finished speaking! Listen to what I am saying!

Crikey!....Made me jump.....poor lady went rigid and red.....she said very little for the rest of the meal.....behaved very well I thought.....

I joke about dunking him in his pie.....but in truth I would have stood up and calmly left.....You?.....x

dinner would be in his lap and drink over head !
If it had been me, he's have been lucky to be out of there alive X
I'd have adressed the diners, excuse me everyone, can you shut it, he's talking ... to himself .. then left.
Does that mean that he's blew his chances for tonight ?.
I would have riled and told him to stuff his fish pie up his bottom. I have a short fuse. Then, I would have stormed out, packed , checked out of the hotel and driven home. ;-)
What a way to ruin an evening.

I felt very sad for her......it was so obvious that it wasn't a behaviour she was used to....
Later, when he asked if she wanted dessert she smiled and hesitated....we all do that, don't we ladies.... ;-)
Before she spoke he snapped again....Well come on! Yes or No!

They did seem to converse a little during the meal...I really wasn't eavesdropping all the while.....but she was very cowed...

I hope she ditches him.......x

Oh and yes, Tony.....very much so.....but he'd have had to stop talking to take his chance and that wasn't going to happen.... ;-)
If it was the first time he had ever done anything like it...then later we would have had a conversation. If it wasn’t the first time then yes I would have left....
Assuming it was a new(ish) relationship then better to know now than further down the road.
I hope she ditches him.......x

She will if she as enough sense, gness. A proper control freak.
He sounds like an oaf. Or a "screaming *** gibbon" as some of my friends described my ex.........
BM... you're well shot. He doesn't try to contact you now, does he?
He cant ;)
As the tables were fairly close I might have been tempted to 'accidentally' bump into him as I went to the loo and send his fish pie flying into his lap.
^^^Ditto, in spades -- been there. Not so easy in practice, though, is it? May be on first holiday, room and transport home shared. Instinct would prevent ' making a scene' This was obviously unexpected by her. A few years ago I'm afraid that, looking back and in those circumstances, I would have peaceably finished the meal and broached the subject later, out of the public eye. Nowadays, I would have said, quite loudly, "How dare you speak to me like that?", called the waiter and asked to be moved to another table. His reaction to that would probably end the relationship.
Pleased to hear it, BM. If I had my time over, I'd stay single x
Sounds like a disgruntled Tory supporter out " celebrating " , :-)

"Shut up and listen to me!"....Mmmmm I think you're right, Anne...... :-)
