//A Masterchef winner has opened a restaurant where diners are served food on the backs of their hands as the so-called 'no plates' fad reaches a new extreme.//

Who on earth wants to eat from the back of their hand? Is anyone else fed up with the pretentious nonsense of being served food on slate, or wood, or giant leaves, or in flower pots, jam jars, jugs, and an assortment of vessels? I recently asked a waiter who brought my food on a slab of slate to take it away and put it on a plate. He did. Just give me a plate!

I suppose it's okay for finger food. :)
Perhaps there's a genuine shortage due to too many Greek restaurants in the area!

Haha! That I can manage - but "a squirt of burnt apple puree and crunchy pork" dolloped on the back of my hand? Noooo!
This is why I eat beans on toast.... cuz ive got no plates
Sounds like clutching at straws for a new concept to me. The novelty will soon wear off, especially for the man who ordered Vindaloo then forgot to wash it off his hands before going to the toilet!
Pretentious nonsense. I wouldn't eat there.
Eek!
It's here in Plymouth.
We've finally become trendy...people from London, Manchester...everywhere...will be invading us. Oh nooooo!!
Who'd of thought....?
Give me a tray, (polostyrine) bucket, carton even yesterdays snooze paper, no way could I be served like that unless she was seriously hot. Plymouth is quite safe from me.
There's the fairly traditional way of being served the Chef's choice of sushi, Omakase, which usually means you sit at the sushi bar and the chef makes it sushi in front of you and hands it directly to you to eat - one piece at a time. That's probably acceptable.

I won't be ordering the soup at that restaurant.
Once when cooking for a magazine photo shoot the magazines stylist presented me with the 'dishes' they wanted the food presented in.

She thought they looked like punnets I thought they looked like hospital sick bowls :-(
I've been fed up of this fad since it started. I don't want my mixed grill served on a blerdy shovel nor my bread served in a flat cap, thank you very much.

Plates have rims for a reason and slates are useless as food servers due to the lack of them.

Give us back our plates and bowls! Whenever I am served food on anything other than a plate or bowl I demand one.
What about a bun?

Ark double checks spelling
I have served food in martini glasses and on slates, bread in flower pots and scallops on little boats - it depends on what sort of dinner party I am having.
Don't like it you don't have to eat at my house.
Islay, being a guest in your home is totally different from being a paying customer in a restaurant.
OK HC I have also when I worked in restaurants served food up in a variety of different containers.
Food is a changing fashion and as such this particular fashion will move on. Some people just like to have things to complain about and I suggest that those going to eat at the restaurant in question knew before hand what they were going to!!
i object to the plates that are so small they are hard to see let alone have your food served on. i have had food served on a wooden board, awkward to say the least. these pretentious people and their faddy food can get stuffed as far as i am concerned.
In the few restaurants I've eaten in that serves their food on anything other than plates, I have come to the conclusion that the more eccentric the dish the less appetising the food.
I also dislike chips being served in twee little frying baskets - they go cold too quickly.
I was once served a huge choux bun filled with cream and smothered in hot chocolate sauce on a tiny slate. What a mess it made of the table cloth - before I'd touched it.
'Don't like it you don't have to eat at my house.' Phew, that's a bloody relief ....!
