Really, eating fewer calories is the only thing that promotes weight loss though.
Thats not quite true Tel. Exercise also promotes weight loss. You could still eat the same amount of calories and do more exercise and the weight will slowly drop off.
Technically you're right Stellabe - it's the balance between calories in and calories burnt that matters.

However, increased exercise does tend to tempt one to take in more calories to compensate. Also, it builds muscle and muscle weighs more than fat!
