Can anybody tell me does Port or Champagne go off if the bottle hasn't been opened?

As far as I know neither should go off as long as the seal holds.

Thankyou Scotman, but how will I know if the 'cork' is sealed (obviously I know if the seal is gone on the bottle of port).
Cork allows a teeny, weeny amount of air to pass through it.

In the case of Port, this allows the Port to mature in the bottle.

In the case of Champagne it allows it, eventually, to go flat.

I think.
The keeping properties will depend on the quality of the product. Some wines are best drunk within a year or even less, others will gradually improve over decades. (As long as there's nothing wrong with the cork, champagne won't go flat, JJ).
Oh, right. Thanks, heathfield.

They won't go off for a very long time and the only way to find out is to drink some, or all of it!!
