Please don't see me as a "pensioner basher" in any way as this is a very serious and valid question as I do love the elderly and after all most of us become elderly at some point.
My question comes from hearing about many elderly people telling their relatives that they will kill themselves and they don't want to be seen as a bother etc.. But then raise all kinds of hell that do indeed cause bother and disruption, even here before I signed up when I read time to time I always see members that have been identified as elderly taking things to heart and then threatening to leave only to reappear several days later with a "Cooee Im baack" Why is this done? Is this maybe a form of loneliness and a way to see how many friends they have or maybe a mild form of a degenerating brain disease? This has had me perplexxed for a long time so any input into understanding this condition will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
One confused amy.

I've personally found quite a few elderly to be cantankerous, crotchety and downright rude

and your question is?
I hate those too Starbuck ;-)

Awww no, didn't think of that one Lottie, dammit!

And probably Pasta :P
Wisdom is lost on the young (and naive)
Shaddap Craft ;-)
Right then, as I'm over 60 I am entitled to flounce off and feel hard done by. I am offended And I am not coming back, ever, ever, ever!! So there..............................

Okay craft and others that haven't seen what I'm saying here it is again in a nutshell

"Is this maybe a form of loneliness and a way to see how many friends they have or maybe a mild form of a degenerating brain disease?"
And don't pick on me......it's all down to my 'degenerating brain disease'......

Amy babes, you will learn that you cannot make sweeping generalisations and simplistic answers are never the soloution.
i suppose its just the same as every teenager in the world thinks they know exactly why everyone behaves as they do and what should be done about it
Can you image what BOO will be like when she gets old, cantankerous and crotchety

we all better run for cover ;o)
BOO? She's like that already, so we won't notice the difference >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I knew you wouldn't let me down lofty. so Cooee to you too.
Awww c'mon, you're all being a bit unfair to the OP.

The elderly customers (again, some of them) I serve at work treat us like crap, we're only there to be their personal shoppers, count out the money from their purses, load their shopping and listen to them whinge about the price of stuff, all without a thank you to boot. If they treat "adults" like this, imagine the contempt they treat "kids" such as Amy here?
Can you tell me why the majority of young people on Facebook add the world and their wife to their 'friends' lists, without even knowing most of them - and you say that the elderly like to publicise how many 'friends' they have!!
Hang on...pinki lady....

Why do the elderly deserve respect? Just because they're old? No, sorry, respect is freely given when the other person treats me the same.
