Disability living allowance.

Hi my little boy who is 2 has a rare syndrome and needs extra help.my portage worker and speech and language therapist say he should be intitled to DLA i filled in a form 8weeks ago and received a letter this morning saying sorry we havent sorted out your claim yet we will contact you in the near future.Has anyone else put a claim in for DLA and if so has anyone received this sort of letter and if so how long does it take to sort it out?thanks

An initial claim for DLA for a child can take up to 4 months. The same happened when I applied for my son's. I was awarded full back pay though (to the date of the original claim).
its a standard letter, it can take a few months to sort out your DLA, when you have received that letter then you are not far away from a decision.
Shouldnt be too long now. Good luck with your application. If they turn you down or give a lower rate appeal dont give up you deserve the extra help.
