Iran is supposed to be a strict Islamic State but it appears they dont have to wear the Burka like many Muslim women in Europe seem to.

Just what is going on?

The answer is that Iran is a huge, and surprisingly diverse country, not a bit like, for example, Saudi Arabia, which Iranians, as well as ourselves, scorn as being a medieval family dictatorship
Iran isn't as diverse as ichkeria would have you believe.

// Iran has had various forms of "morality police" since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, but the Gasht-e Ershad are currently the main agency tasked enforcing Iran's Islamic code of conduct in public.

Their focus is on ensuring observance of hijab - mandatory rules requiring women to cover their hair and bodies and discouraging cosmetics.//

As the article says, those pictures were probably taken outside the country - or behind the closed doors of wealthy private homes.
that irl in the second picture is curious shape!
I am not saying Iran is a miodel of diversity, Naomi (sigh)
But it is not the country many think, either
And the reason for that is, it's simply too big
ichkeria, no need to sigh. I'm very pleased you're not saying that Iran is a model of diversity because it's far from that.

Err this is in Tehran. Is that too big?
I know what you're about ymb: "Muslim women in Europe shouldn't wear the burka because even a lot of women in Iran don't"

:-)
Women in Iran aren't obliged to wear the burka. They are obliged to wear the hijab. Women in Europe aren't obliged to wear either.
Women in Iran are obliged to wear a headscarf and loose, modest clothing.
Do you mean Muslim women in Europe Naomi? If so, doesn't their religion 'oblige' them to do so?
Zacs-Master, the law doesn't demand it.
I never mentioned 'the law'.
There are quite a few doubts about this group/Account, none of which I can comment on through lack of knowledge.

However if thousands want to follow them then I guess they aren't bothering anyone .
The law is what we're talking about.
That^ was to Zacs-Master.
Noami, I don't think the law 'obliges' (your word) anyone to do anything but their religion does. Is this not true and the reason why Muslim women wear the burkha / hidjab in Europe? Nothing to do with law?
I think the law 'obliges' them.

Oh, here's HM Gov on the subject:

Aren't diversity, tolerance and (wait for it) "mutual respect" great things! Holding hands, dancing round the campfire, "I'd like to teach the world to sing".

What a wonderful world it would be if only we didn't have all these deplorables stirring up hate.
