How can I find out when someone died and where they are buried or cremated thank you

Hi its for an old friend I lost with years ago and just found out last week he'd passed away

Its unlikely anyone on the family would have updated any tree he was on so the only way, for now, is to try and get in touch with family / friends.

If you know his full name and the area and approximate year he passed away you can search for him on Ancestry. Easier to find if he has an unusual name. My ancestors are all William Smith!!!!

Google your friend's details - it may show some sort of death notice or obituary

If you know his full name and date of birth you can get a copy of his death certificate.

It's helped me a lot over the years and is especially useful if the deceased's family put an announcement in a newspaper. Be aware though that it may take some trawling to get to what you want and the more info you have to put in the search box, the better.
