Hello all you clever people!
Being a child of the Imperial era, could any of you knowledgable lot give an example of a household object (or multiple thereof) that weighs as near as damn to 15kgs?
I've recently booked flights with Ryanair and will start packing my holdall shortly and I'd just like a rough indication of how heavy it ought to feel in comparison.
Many thanks in advance for any and all answers.

15 kg approx = 15 litres of most liquids - milk, beer, water, lemonade, whatever.
15 standard bags of sugar
6 bags of spuds
A normal 15l bucket full of water.
Oh dear, rocky, your //15 standard bags of sugar// could land this poster with quite an excess baggage bill! In all our local shops, a standard bag of sugar is 2 kg.
1kg here(sugar)
Whatever you do chill make sure the 15 keys is well wrapped or the sniffer dogs might get you

LOL Zeuhl, I'll be ok, my son will be the drugs mule.......

Just kidding folks!

Any confirmation on the bag of sugar weight as I don't have one to hand?
A bag of sugar is typically 1 kg.

Further question:
Is a 15L bucket a bog standard kitchen bucket or one of those sturdier types often seen on building sites etc?
Depends on which size you buy, some are 1kg some are 2 and some are less.

and a cake should know
It's the builders bucket that I was thinking of.
33Ibs or just over 2 stones.

I sure uou know the trick of weighing yourself on bathroom scales with and without the case and then subtracting the difference.

Thank you Frank, most informative.
chill

this might be a stupid question but do you have any bathroom scales?

if you do, weigh yourself, then get on holding random household items until you hit your weight plus 15 k (give or take)
Question Author
Not got any scales Gromit, I daresay I'd have a set in the house if there was a Mrs ChillDoubt! LOL
Standard builders' buckets are around 14-15 litres, Chills.
Fill one to the top with water, and you'll have a pretty good idea as to what 15kg feels like.
If you are flying Ryanair, don't even think about guessing. Get yourself some luggage scales which aren't expensive, and weigh your case properly. Ryanair will charge you for excess, and it's very expensive. We flew with them recently and went with hand luggage only!
3, 5Kg Dairy Milk Bars.
My typical work suitcase:-
1 small handbag, 1 small bag recharger cables, 1 small hot water bottle, 1 umbrella, 1 pretty huge toilettries bag, PJs, nightie, underwear, slippers, trainers or other shoes, jeans, few tops, swimsuit, kettle, mug, litre of longlife milk, tea bags, small pot sugar, book, jacket, bottle of Tobasco in one hardshell Samsonite suitcase = 17kg. I reckon the suitcase weights a bit though.
