Changing back to my maiden name

I wanted to find out how to revert back to my maiden name, do I simply just apply for a new passport with my maiden name or it's not as simple as that, I've been separated on and off for many years but now I've given up on him, we live in the same house simply for the sake of the kids but I feel I want to change my name back to what it was before we were married as I'm not happy with his surname, I want to shed everything to do with him.... Plz help

After divorcing the first Mr Craft I just wrote to people and told them of my change of name. A passport was never a problem as I had my birth certificate.

Just do it, nyzzy, you don't have to do anything more than that, just start using your maiden name. The documents you need to change will be your passport, driving licence, car insurance, medical and dental records, and your bank and any card issuers. I have kept my previous name for work but changed all those documents so there would be consistency when I travelled or needed healthcare. You don't even need to tell the tax office - the taxman told me he didn't care what I called myself, as long as I kept the same NI number!

When I divorced my husband, I reverted back to my maiden name but did it through Deed Poll, I think if you just "tell" people/companies your given name that's all it is... A given name but your "legal" name would still be the one on all your official documents I.e passport, driving licence etc.

I use my maiden and married name in double-barrelled form on everything legal, have done for 17 years. my married surname is the one I use when referring to my kids as they only have that as their surname. oh and on the internet i use just my married name.

Just use whatever name you want for everyday purposes . This is what my daughter has done after her divorce, but her passport is still in her married name she sees no reason to change it. A deed poll is not nessesary especially in the case of a seperated woman who just wants to use her maiden name, I think she has the legal right to do that anyway.

I did this by simply writing to everyone like the National Insurance office with copy of divorce papers stating I want to be known by xxx surname. I had to fill in a special form, I think, for my passport, and supply original divorce decree.

Maybe you are all correct. Try claiming a pension when even your christian name differs. It took me nearly six months and over £100 in phone calls and special delivery Royal Mail letters.

The Pension Service will address by the name on your National Insurance record, which is one reason why they were the first people I informed. Write to National Insurance Contributions Office, Benton Park View, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE98 1ZZ

It can cause quite a lot of problems when you change your name. I know someone who discovered he had been going by the name of his stepfather for years when in fact the name on his birth certificate was a different one. He tried for a while to use his real name but reverted back eventually because of all the difficulties.

China fine in theory, does not work in practice. To say what happened in my case I would have to reveal my real and given name.
