not so much "on request",but if anxiety means that a woman does not want to deliver vaginally they will offer her mental health support (ie try and change her mind) if this fails, they shouldbe able to negotiate a cs

I think it varies. No two labours are guaranteed to be the same.

New guidance notes were issued by NICE last year. Here is a very short extract. "If a woman requests a caesarean section because she's anxious about childbirth, she should be referred to a healthcare professional with expertise in providing mental health support. She should be offered a planned caesarean if, after discussion and support, she still feels a vaginal birth is not an acceptable option. "
Your daughter-in-law should be made aware of the higher risk involved with Caesarian section and also the extended recovery time. The NICE guidance notes (282 pages) from 2011 are here if you are that interested: http:// |

My friend had a highly traumatic birth first time, and she had ceasarian on request for the 2nd although she did have to speak to someone before they confirmed this.

I went into shock after the birth of my 3rd. Horrible experience. Apparently I gave birth too quick.

With that obstetric history a CS is almost guaranteed.

She can but ask, grange - Caesarian on demand is not often agreed to now, but it sounds as if she has good clinical reasons for requesting it.
Ummm - my SIL too - 3rd child delivered in 20 minutes from start to finish... |

About the same Boxy. I went to hospital at 5. Went from 5 to 10 in 30 mins.

many thanks for all your comments! I'm sure she will be much encouraged! At least she is beginning to talk about another baby now instead of being completely horrified at the thought!

i can sympathise with your DIL my first child was exactly the same, ventouse with complications I swore I would never have another baby, however as with everything time heals and 6 years later I decided the time was right and had a perfect labour and delivery, nothing like the first at all.
