Bank Accounts for step children

I have 2 step children who are 13 and 14 who dont have any sort of bank account or savings account.

They live far away from us and a lot of family send money through the post but are very wary of it but its the only option.

My partner (their dad) works a lot so doesn't have the time to go and open an account for them

Is it possible for me to do this witout them being here? Even if it was a post office account, something that we could all put birthday, xmas money in etc

which bank are you with? For exMPLE, LLOYDS TSB HAVE A CHILD SAVER ACCOUNT THAT IS CONTROLLED BY THE PERSON WHO SETS IT UP TILL THE CHILD IS 16. You need to be with lloyds anyway, and have their birth certificate. i can't see anywhere where it says a parent must do it http://www.lloydstsb....vers_account_page.asp
