Pregnancy

what does it all mean?

Hello, how are you all coping with the heat? I'm thinking of becoming nocturnal to avoid it!!

Anyway my question - I'm36+6 and I had 2 antenatal appointments this morning one with the CMW to make a birth plan and the other at the hosp.

The CMW took my BP and it was 120/80 and said the baby was 2/5 engaged then an hour later at the hosp they said my BP was 160/80 and baby was only 3/5 engaged why is the baby moving the wrong way? or is just an estimate? and why did they seem so concerned about my BP, is that high?

baby will still be moving slightly up and down. But if you think about it, its hardly going to be an accurate measurement is it, they have to try and work out by feel alone how far in your babys head is and i doubt thats easy.

as for your BP what did they say? usually its the second figure that they would be concerned about and 80 is not high at all. rushing about from one appt to the other may have cused the rise so i expect they will just keep an eye on if it there were no other signs of problems.

I really feel for you in this heat. I was heavily pregnant in the last really hot summer we had in 2005 and it was unbearable, my legs would itch and id sit at work with all the fans on me eating one ice lolly after another.

80 is average n seeing as ur so far gone id have thought that was pretty good!! the heat would be much appreciated if i weren't 39 wks preg but its too much at the minute!!

the 120 and 160 on ur blood pressure aren't important- its the 80 that they are interested in. and i wouldnt worry about how far engaged baby is- all that matters is that baby is engaged and wont be too long now til u meet!!

Thanks both of you, I'm gettin all excited now!! The docs obviously aren't that concerned about my BP they just want to keep an eye on it.

37 today!! like you I'm way too hot but then i can just slob around doing nothing without feeling guilty!

I just hope this one will hold off untill nxt tues coz we're doin up our house at the mo and just have 1 room left - it only needs painting then a new carpet is being fitted on monday, but I'm stressing coz the baby's so far engaged and i keep getting braxton hicks every evening and period type pains, every time it happens I'm convinced that this is it!!

Oh well fingers crossed that it either starts snowing or your little one comes a few days early!!

well i went to the midwife today cos im having period type pains ( similar to urself) bad back and lots of discharge ( sorry!) and she said its a good sign, plus the head is 3/5 engaged and she doesn't think i'll still be pregnant monday ( my due date) so hopefully, fingers crossed, she shouldn't be too long!! she told me to roll around on a space hopper for an hr a day n i should go into labour fairly quickly!
