Get Married Abroad.....where to start???

Hello all,

Finally, me and my fiance of 6 years have the ball rolling to plan our wedding, however we wanted to get married abroad and wondered if anyone had also done this, and how much it cost? Is it always best to hire a wedding planner, and has anyone used any that they would recommend. We have had a few suggestions of Mexico, Turkey and Cyprus, I love Turkey and been to quite a few places out there, Mexico I have never been to and although it looks lovely someone did mention that you have to get married here in the uk first and then go out there for the ceremony??? I don't really fancy that to be honest. I'd rather do it all properly, on a beach with close friends and family witnessing.
Cyprus I have never been to and it seems quite popular with weddings so I am heading towards that, unless someone can change my mind :). Please if you have got married abroad, wherever it may be, whether you used a wedding planner, or if you was clever enough to arrange everything yourself and managed to do it all cheaper, please post below and share it with me...any advice would be greatly appareciated.
