There's a lot of preparation before the flight. Weather conditions have to be right too, or they wont put people in danger and cancel the flight. My balloon experience was wonderful. It was something I'd always wanted to do, though. Try not to stand too near the jet. When they give the balloon a boost, it gets a bit hot!

I think that's partly it, pasta. I don't mind planes, helicopters, etc., but balloons seem so fragile - and there's no parachute if you suddenly come down!!

There are several people in the balloon on each ride. You can stand in the middle of them if you feel insecure at first. One woman on my flight was like that, but when she'd got used to the sensation and knew she was safe, she moved to the outside for a better view like everyone else.

Ice....take a drive to Bournemouth; there is a permanent balloon ride there. The balloon is anchored and rises to about 200ft.

yes, three times, all absolutely wonderful.
They're much more solid than they look from down on the ground. The skin's pretty thick, but even if it gets a pinprick, no big deal: the jets just keep heating the air. (It's not as if it's gas and it's all going to leak away). Also, the baskets are big and solild.
