u r so gay

Is it ok to use 'gay' on tv, meaning weak or effeminate? Clarkston did it kinda on Top Gear talking about 'a car for queers' or suchlike. Last night I watched some poker and a guy instead of betting big, just put in a minimum bet, which the commentator called 'such a gay raise'. I'll be surprised if he gets away with it. It's very much common parlance but it's not acceptable yet, is it?

Why would they worry ???

Where I live, we probably have a bigger gay population than any other town in the country. If they spent their whole lives feeling offended, we'd be in a right mess.

Look, if someone says "all gays are bad" or "down with gays", then that's just mean and nasty. But to say something amusing like "that was a gay raise" ???

Come on you lot. For god's sake, get a life.

I don't mind it one bit, and I'm not even gay.
It assumes here that gays are weak, I think.

My friend is 20 stone and now highly offended. Despite his strength, he's probably also gay.

Yes oldgrape, but in this context, it must mean effeminate. If you tell most of the gay people I know that they are effeminate, they'd laugh. Of course they are ... after all, they are gay!!!

Why does everyone assume that gay blokes have no sense of humour. I think the really discriminative attitude is to think that they are weird and can't laugh at themselves. They can. They are fun. They are great. They are gay. And I love them all because they make Brighton such a fun and fabulous town.

I am 61 and gay,and am neither weak nor effeminate(why must people assume ALL gays ARE?)
I also take exception to anyone who ASSUMES all gays are.

Just seen a trailer for Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. Do you think they get the hump with themselves for calling themselves "queer"? No. Why? Because they have a sense of FUN !!!!!!!

By the way, have just been watching America's Next Top Model. Is Tyra Banks the most gorgeous woman on the planet OR WHAT ??!!

I have worked with many gay guys over the years, and I can confirm that many are not in the least effeminate.

One airline Captain had all the girls swooning over him, and they were devastated when they found out.

I having nothing against Gays, as long as they just kiss, cuddle and feel each other, but inserting a penis in a bum disturbs me. its not natural.

Marg),
No,I don't take offence, because it's no good doing so, it gets one nowhere;especially when the ignorant comments come from a bigoted chauvinist halfbraint like Clarkson,I really thought creatures like him died out in the stone age?

'thats so gay' tends to mean its rubbish or substandard in the context that I understand it. So yes, I think it is offensive to gays.
