Ms Carrust's future boss has invited us for a dinner party on Saurday night. The boss & his wife are both born again Christians, vegans & teetotallers. What the fcuk are we going to talk about. Any suggestions would be greatly receieved.

carrust - it'll be fine! Don't talk about the bible, but you can say how much you enjoyed the nut cutlets and Earl Grey!! As someone said - grin and bear it, and you might be in line for promotion!! In any case, it really MIGHT be alright. Your hosts might not even mention their personal choices, and you'll maybe have a better time than you're expecting.

im not a christian juggerling but i just think that people should have a little bit of respect for other peoples beliefs instead of denouncing them as boring when they haven't even met them as in this case and furthermore one does not need a belly full of p.i.s.h to be entertaining, that's my point made :)

last time I went out I was constantly asked if I was okay because i didnt drink alcohol, my friend said she thought I wouldnt enjoy myself if I drank soft drinks, but I had a good time anyway
they seemed more worried about it than me though

Reminds of a dinner party I went to with the ex missus. He had a massive salt-water aquarium, but it had only 1 fish in it....
A HADDOCK!!!! I nearly burst a blood vessel trying to stop laughing. I might start with that one.

I agree there, bob. When you're in the company of people who believe in different things to yourself, you have to show some respect. In fact, this dinner party could turn out very interesting, because there'll be a LOT to talk about, if you think about it,

Bob, I totally agree. I said, "they are certainly NOT boring folk - they are lovely, delightful and very friendly" The staggering home 10 metres referred to the fact they DO drink alcohol and used to ply me with it, not that I was sitting there drinking it and they weren't... I would never denigrate anyone's religion, I am too aware of how much it can mean to someone.

I think you need to give them a chance - they're probably wondering the same thing about you and who knows they may want to talk shop anyway. I know people with strong religious beliefs and they don't actually make that the be all and end all of conversation. You may find you have something in common, like a shared love of fell-walking or pottery or you may discover you both like the art of Gustav Klimt. Give it a chance, i'm not sure why you think the fact they are religious, don't drink and don't eat meat will equate to dull conversation - do you sit round at dinner and talk about beef and beer?
