Can a hotel charge for cleaning up after a vacation?

We the WOODFIELD guest accommodation, we have been named by Mr Johnathon Britton for charging him with a cleaning bill for the cleaning of his room after he stayed here. We didn't expect to get paid. However what would you do if some comes in to the place you live or stay in as a guest a leaves human waste up the shower walls. The cost of not only cleaning the shower but completely sanatising the room is just below the cost of his stay with us. We are a 3 Star guest house & come highly recommended. We have guest that stop with us 4 times a year. We welcome anybody to come a inspect us,
your views would helpful as this guy has just knock us for 6.

From what I read, the guy puked up in the bathroom then expected someone else to clean it up. In my mind, you were more than fair in charging him.

I think both these posts should now be reported for naming, leave it to the courts to decide. I was on the hotels side lastnight, he should pay for what has been damaged, but now I wouldn’t stay in a hotel that’s pathetic enough to carry on an argument on here.

The outcome in court you wouldn't get to here, we are just putting the otherside to the story.

I'm with the hotel here. There's too much of this yob culture nowadays. If I had had the misfortune to be sick, the very least I would do is to clean it up.

Good luck to you kerwin.

In fairness -he named their hotel -so he has to take the consequences.

I wouldnt clean up any randoms vomit for love nor money -the least he could have done was cleaned any mess up himself.

He even admitted to there being vomit stains -so if he saw them why did he think it was someone elses job to clean them up?

That smacks of arrogance and a very bad attitude and if I were him I would cough up and treat other people with respect in future instead of lamenting about it on line and expecting others to do his dirty work for him.

Oh so you did it because he did it first. A proper company would not act so childishly

If someone had bad mouthed my company on the internet for all the world to see, I too would defend myself.

I’ve talked about tesco on here before and other shops I get peed off with but hey they don’t come on here and name me. Now people will just know your hotel as the ones who came on chatterbank to argue with a customer.

I can understand the OP's need to defend his business reputation - after all his business has been publicly criticised.

As I said on the original thread, I would be mortified if I left a room in an unclean state and would not slink away without bringing it to the attention of the management.

I would advise the OP to add the 'additional cleaning charge' to the terms and conditions of the contract if it is not already clear.

One thing I do know for sure - businesses do not willingly tell clients they are no longer welcome. They lose business and money doing that. We do know that the person referred to had stayed at least once before so was a repeat customer.
The OP must have had very good reason for banning this client - more than vomit in a toilet pan.

I think this is a symptom of the total disrespect that seems prevalent in society - no respect for other people or their property, no self control and no self-respect.

But Tesco is a huge corporation that won't give a toss about what people think of them.

Now imagine that you are looking for places to stay in Blackpool through Google and answerbank comes up with a thread bad mouthing the place. Not very fair is it?

Don’t get me wrong I am all for you getting money back of this bloke, as he should have cleaned up after himself but I just don’t think coming on here is something a good company would do. I really dont think they needed to defend themselves as most can see that bloke was in the wrong.

It is only boudmouthing them wanting money for something he did wrong. So the only people that wouldnt want to stay there are people that want to puke on everything so hotel wouldnt want them anyway. Now they will search and get this post and wonder why a hotel would come on answerbank.

i think if that either both or neither posts should be here. Both sides have been given and i still believe the hotel were right to charge.

firstly the other poster said he cleaned up, then he said that there were still vomit stains, and then said that its not difficult to clean up vomit. Such a shame he couldnt clean his own up fully eh?

Of course, this could just be someone pretending to be the guesthouse, unless they were tipped off by someone that knew them and pointed in this direction???

ummmmm..How did the guesthouse know they had been bad-mouthed on here in the first place??? Most guesthouse owners are too worked off their feet to spend time on a site like this.......just wondering.( by the way-I am on their side in this)

Because small businesses regularly check the internet to see where they are mentioned.

They did mention they were tipped off about the posts made when they were named.

Perhaps they arent au faut with the 'etiquette' of AB -however perhaps Jonnyboy should have kept his trap shut and not mentioned them without thinking of the consequences.

yes you did , out of contempt for your opinion i would think,
i am entirely on the side of the guest house,
If someone smears thier reputation, then surely they have a right to make thier point, and this is all they have done,

we even know the Guest house now,but we would not know who this johny is.
Good luck to you Kerwin, send him anothe r bil, and enforce it,
pete.
