Last year I worked briefly for a company but had to stop due to severe depression. My problem is that at the time I left I didn't recieve my p45. I have asked the company in question for it but they said that they do not do replacements. I want to get another job, what happens regarding tax if I can't produce a p45? Thanks!

Your P45 from last year will be of little use now - it's a new tax year.

What will happen is that your new company will tell the taxman you've started, the taxman will send you a form to fill in and when you send it back he will give your employer a tax code to use and send you a copy.

While this is happening you will be on an emergency tax code, probably paying too much tax which you'll get back when the proper code is applied.

Hello!

As far as I know if you don't have a P45 its not a problem as you can complete a P46 form when you start work. Your new company should have one. It may mean though that you are put on emergency tax until your new code is received from the tax office.

Good luck with your job hunting!
