What is a certified copy of a document?

I need to send a certified copy of my marriage certificate in order to change the name on my mortgage? What does this mean?

If you are sending a photcopy, you just need a 'professional' to sign the copy to say that they are confirming that the copy is genuine, and the certificate copied is yours.


A Head Teacher, doctor, bank manager, JP, someone like that can note authenticity and sign it for you,

If the mortgage brokers have a local branch they will photocopy the original ,stamp the copy and sign this to say have seen the original and yourself,and they can send it off for you to get the name change.
