Interest on Euros

When talking to others it transpired that interest rates earned by people living in the Eurozone and depositing their money in various straight-forward accounts (not investment) is quite low - some seem to accept earning next to nothing while paying fees out of that for the privelege of having an account. When I expressed surprise that each line on a statement is charged for, I was the weirdo. Does anyone know what is the best to be had on Euros and in which country ?

Well the base rate for the Euro is lower so saving rates will be lower. Didn't know about the charging regime though sounds a bit draconian, I mean charges for each line of the statement. Sorry no idea where the best rates are.

It could be worse, I think japanese saving rates are/where negative!
