Travellers Cheques In Italian Lira!

My uncle just found travellers cheques in his drawer to the value of 600,000 Italian Lira. Would anyone know if he could cash them in at the bank bearing in mind the Lira is no longer a legal currency? We know even if they are still valid that they are worth next to nothing, but I promised I'd try to find out. My advice was take them to the bank so they can have a good laugh so anyone who has a serious answer would be appreciated.

£309.87 (which is what 600,000 Lira became upon the introduction of the Euro) isn't quite 'next to nothing' in my book! I doubt that any High Street bank would be able to help but the firm which actually the traveller's cheques might be able to assist. That would certainly be my first point of contact.
