If your otherhalf earns nothing then you can claim part of their tax free earnings / allowance. Call your tax office and they can sort it in minutes, you may have to hang on waiting for the next available person but it is worth the wait.
There are 2 types, Married Couples allowance if one of you were born before 1935.
Or the transfer of unused tax allowance from one spouse to another up to the sum of £1100.
You will have to put a claim in.

It does not matter if the spouse has income, only that they have unused tax allowance. There is a level where you have to take care as there could be a risk that their pay could tip over the reduced tax allowance.
This may help.
