I have watched a couple of these episodes and find it really hypocritical.

In instances where they visit houses with too many tenants, not once does the housing officer say come down to the housing office and I will find you alternative accommodation.

Instead, they make out the landlord is doing it for money - maybe in most cases - and blame the landlord. Some of these tenants are here legally.

Until the housing situation is sorted, I don't think the councils can point the finger.

The Housing Officers know that there are insufficient properties to house these people. The most the are presently able to do is make sure that the tenants are in 'safe' accommodation.
And, unfortunately, there are a great many landlords who *are* just in it for the money.

So it would be better not to regulate landlords and end up with the Rachman situation again?

or people dying in fires or from carbon monoxide?
I have seen this program and often where the property is safe and the only problem is overcrowding, then people are allowed to stay and the problem is resolved by natural wasteage.
