I've heard from a friend that even though you haven't received a tax rebate you may still be owed money from the taxman which they don't tell you about. He said he received a hefty check after he sent details to the taxman.

Is this true and if it is how do I go about it as I've done several jobs as paye in the past and if it is owed to me I need to reclaim it. Thank you.

He's currently out of the country so cannot go further in depth about this with him hence my question here. Thank you.
If you are on PAYE with just one employer then it's unlikely.
Work out your income for the year then use your tax code to work out what you should have paid
If you've had two or more employers at any one time in each tax year then there is a chance you may have overpaid. You can claim online but you might as well look at the tax codes and actual deductions first
Check your tax code.
You may of course find you have underpaid tax
the best thing to do is fill in a tax return on line your the tax year in question, then you will know exactly what you are owed or indeed owe.
so you are asking us if what a man in a pub told you - is true now that he has left the country ?

I would email him to be honest

if you have had one job and pay tax thro PAYE then it is unlikely the tax man has got it wrong
