Little miss Bazile ( well not so little - she's 20 ) got turned down for a mobile phone contract , after a credit check ( required by the mobile phone company ) by Carphone Warehouse .

We are wondering why she has been turned down .
Would a possible reason be because she hasn't got a credit history;having not long just started a job after completing her A Levels ?

Very likely Baz. If she has no history of paying bills promptly, responsible use of credit cards and so on, then she has no credit history.
Yeah. My son got turned down and that was the reason given. He's been working now, earning decent money (for his age) so we're hoping his bank will give him a small limit CC.
I presume she's on the electoral roll for the same address as given to the phone company (if not, that could be a contributory factor).

Thanks for your replies both , I thought that might be the case .

The guy in the shop tried two providers and told her that it's not recomened that she tries again before 90 days .

Does that sound right - what if she wants to take out something else
, like a store card - afterall she has got to get a history of paying for stuff , going , in order to build up a credit history ?

The more she tries to get credit and refused, the worse her credit score gets.
Maybe she needs to be in work a bit longer.

If she gets a 'sim only' contract they will not do a credit check, but the regular payments will go towards her credit rating.
It would mean she would have to buy a phone outright but this would help her rating.
there are credit cards for people with poor credit history. The interest is astronomical and the limit low but its worth applying for one and using it, repaying everything each month to get a foot on the credit history ladder.
