Resurrecting An Old Limited Company

10 years ago I was the director of a limited company which was closed down by companies house for not filing accounts ( totally my fault - no excuses).
I am now wanting to transfer my sole proprietor business to a limited company again & I was thinking of re-registering as the original company name to avoid appearing as a director of another company.
The original company didn't really get off the ground so it has no 'reputation'.

Can you think of any reason why i shouldnt take this action?

Just to be clear, this is registering a new company with the same name as the old one rather than resurrecting the old company registration number.

Section 66(1) of the Companies Act 2006 states:
"A company must not be registered under this Act by a name that is the same as another name appearing in the registrar's index of company names". Even though your former company has been dissolved I would assume that it is still listed as such in the registrar's index of company names and that its name is therefore no longer available for anyone (including yourself) to re-use.

thanks for the answer but I dont think that applies to dissolved companies and it also doesnt apply to a name that is similar. As long as nobody is around to complain and there isnt any bad reputation to worry about.
I am sure i have had this conversation about names with companies house years ago. This led me to choose a .com name but i didnt follow up and register a company so I cant be certain.
beunchico is correct, you can use a very similar name though.
why not add the date of (re) incorporation to it ?

as Rolls Royce did in 1972 ?

The reason for re-using it is because I like the name but also I didnt want to show that I am a director of a lot of different companies. ( i am splitting the company into a 'trading arm' and an 'assets arm' for protection of my IP).
I think I can re-incorporate a similar name and then have a 'trading as...' name which is the same as the original to keep it a one word company name which will sound better.
Thanks for the replies.
You may come across as 'a bit dodgy' to anyone doing a companies house search when they see an old company with the same name was closed down, especially if this has some detail about Companies House closing it down.
