wonder why the difference

This one ?

Jonathan Piers Daniel Linney is an English businessman, who is the current Co-CEO of cloud-based IT business OUTSOURCERY, best known for being a 'dragon' on the BBC Two business series Dragons' Den. Wikipedia
They are 25.75 pence, 9 pence was their year low
They opened today at 15p, closed at 25.75p - so somebody's interested !

The year high is 120p, the year low is 10.25p

A volatile share it would seem.
I know it depends on the shares you buy, but what would be a decent amount to invest for some extra income? £2k, £5 or more?
Unsure I'd be considering volatile shares to get income. They'd be for taking a gamble on. Or maybe nipping in & out looking for the naive to fund a quick win.
This company is not currently paying any dividends - so definitely not one to buy for income
When buying shares. you've got to ask yourself what are you after; growth or income??
I've got some AIM shares, in some less stable companies, that don't pay any dividends; but there's a good possibility that the price of the share will increase.
I've also got shares in some blue chip companies, where the share price is quite stable; but I'm getting dividends of around 5% :)
Thanks for those answers, everyone. I think I'll just stick with my cash ISA.
