Although ticket prices seem expensive I think that the money raised from ticket sales will be pretty small in comparison with the overall costs of the Olympic Games. Just to use some rough figures, if 1 million tickets are sold at an average of £200 each that will raise £200 million which is about one twentieth of the cost

Thanks for those answers Fibonacci and factor30 ( who may be in the southern hemisphere hopefully enjoying more benign weather ) .

I prowled your link Fibonacci and located a 'Contact' number, 0845 267 2012 and rang the 50p a min staff and got the first answer as to where the money goes as "to the Olympic Legacy" so asked which body gets the dosh and was told " it goes to the upkeep of the Olympic Park" , so I asked does a government body get the dosh to do this or a Council body but eventually hung up/ gave up waiting as I had been on line to them for almost 10 mins at 50p a min , so I suppose if I had hung on longer- and contributed more to this dosh??? I might have got an answer.... but the 'Contact' person was obvious clueless as to the answer and I had no faith that I would get an answer before my phonebill bankrupted me.

So I still am no nearer to the answer .
I understood from Fibonacci's link that it went to LOGOC to offset some of the costs of organising the games
