Stock Options?

I have been offered a job in the USA which comes with stock options and have received the following from the employer:

"Do you know how the UK tax law treats stock or options? We are unsure how you are taxed in the UK over receiving either of these instruments and are trying to figure out a tax efficient way of granting you stock."

Anyone know the best way they can give me this without the tax man grabbing too much of it?

I've decided to pass the link on to them, as it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Thanks for your time mate.
