Not meeting contract requirements

Hi I have managed to secure a placement with a well known IT company to start in August 2012, when applying they never asked me much about my previous grades at University, just on applying I saw that you needed a 2:1 it was at the beginning of the year & I thought it was something I could do...

To be precise all the website says on applying is this...

"To begin with you'll need to be looking to take a year out as part of your degree and be on target for at least a 2:1 honours degree. We welcome applications from international students who have a valid student visa to cover the placement period."

I have signed my contract, do you believe if I dont get a 2:1 they will reject me?

you will be bringing more than a degree to the company, and they hired you for your interest, personality and willingness etc too!

if you MUST have a 2:1 then that would have been expressly spelt out from th outset!

good luck!
Are you on target for a 2:1? If so and you fail to get one, you can probably discuss it with them once you get your results. If not, then they could reject you for misrepresentation. But if you get a "good" 2:2 you could keep the job if you impressed them enough at the interview.
Surely if you're "taking a year out", by the end of your placement you will be returning to the degree course, and the question won't arise.
Any subsequent application for a job will require absolute truthfulness.
I agree with BigJack- this placement will be during the course so the final grade won't have been decided. I can't see what information could make them change their mind (other than failing the year of the course)
All sounds very dubious to me. Never seen any PUBLISHED advert with such conditions. Who pays for this year-off? Do you really understand what your future prospects, income and responsibilities with this firm are? What if you fail to get a 2.1? In your application/CV why was your degree status not stated or why did you not cite your status or were not asked for? As it was a website, hope they have not asked for your banking details are ("for paying your wages"). Are you sure that the firm placing web-site advert are REALLY the firm you call "well known IT company"?
YOU ARE ASKING THE WEBSITE QUESTIONS WHICH ALONG WITH OTHERS THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE CLARIFIED WITH THIS POTENTIAL "EMPLOYER".
Dear Bambiagain,
There is no such thing as a "good", "bad" or indifferent 2.2 or other hons. degree. You are awarded 1.0 , 2.1, 2.2 or 3 and that's it!
Hi solveitquick- I'm not sure there is any reason to see this as dubious / a scam. Cora150892 has said the ad said "you'll need to be looking to take a year out as part of your degree " so it sounds like the sort of sandwich course where a year's work experience is required as part of the course.
Dear factor30,
I have never known of a major company recruiting staff via internet-only especially as the details are so vague (what about resposibilties, salary range etc). Why no advert in New Scientist or IT eqivalent? I wonder what "contract" cora150892 has signed, particularly CORA'S responsibilties to this firm. Cora seems pretty vague about what to expect. Before signing any contract, begin at the end, that's where all the rip-offs are hidden. However as Cora is no longer taking part in this discussion does not seem worth debating further - am not contadicting you factor30, just think you and others sound a bit complacent about someone's career - but it could be I'm over-cautious. Agreed?
Every job I apply for now is off a website. There is nothing in cora's thread to suggest to me it's a scam, but of course I agree that there are scams and you need to be careful.
Maybe cora will join in at some stage
