I have found an old Leeds Permanent Building Society savings book issued to me in November 1992. I know that I withdrew most of my savings but believe that I may have left a small amount in the account. What happened to the Leeds and is it likely I would be able to track down any funds remaining. Thanks in anticipation.

My first mortgage was with the Leeds. That part of the business (I can`t vouch for other parts) was taken over by the Halifax.

Leeds Permanent became part of Halifax, now HBOS. The current Leeds Building Society was previously Leeds and Holbeck Building Society.
There used to be 2 building societies with very similar names. The Leeds Building Society, which is still going and the Leeds Permanent Building Society which was taken over by Halifax
Forgot to add that all Banks should have a department that deals with unclaimed balances.
And as I recall HBOS lost almost all your money and got swallowed by Lloyds.
