Price comparison websites

There are several price comparison websites, each with its own ridiculous TV advert. How can I find out who is behind each of these sites ? Does each one in fact promote the financial products associated with its parent company ? Is one more trustworthy than the others ? Do we need a meta-site to compare the price comparison sites ?

Just got my renewal notice from Green Flag, they are quoting just over £100 less a 10% discount for not calling them out for the last 12 months. I have looked on the price comparison websites...
