local tx rebate

does anybody know if I would be entitled to local tax rebate? I receive disability allowance (full rate) have less then £16000 in the bank, but I own an apartment with my sister as joint tenants. She also looks after me as I am dependant on her. We are both over 65.

The fact that you own your apartment won't make a difference. My mum and dad get Council Tax benefit and they own a 4-bed detached house (both are pensioners, dad gets full rate DLA).

If you find the website for your local council, most have a calculator on there that you can use to find out if you are eligible or not.

Also you could read this which is on the Citizens Advice Bureau website.

Hi there disappointed,
As CheekyChops has indicated Council Tax Benefit is based on Income/Savings.
I get Council Tax Benefit,so have some experience of it.
Probably the easisest way is just to get the form, fill it in and wait.
Council Tax Benefit is paid on a sliding scale, there isn't any "you get it/you don't get it" point (unless your savings/income are way over the limit).
Your Sisters income(if any) should not come into it as she is not your Spouse/Partner,only(as you say) a Joint Tenant
Age is not taken into consideration either(I am 61)
Take your courage in your hands, and just go for it;,you might be surprised what you get?
