I see that a ban on the import of directional halogen light bulbs (spotlights) comes into force on 1st September.

Surely not more EU interference at this late stage?

Looks like being delayed to 2018, we should be out by then.

More utterly ridiculous enforcement of how people can live their life by dictatorial authorities. Granted there is always LED but I don't think any of these new technologies create the same brightness in the same size bulb. Why don't all these power mad control freaks not just clear off and go boil their heads ?
My entire office is lit with LEDs. My two 300 watt halogen security lights have been replaced with two 20 watt LEDs.

My mate's night club is solely LED lit, including all ambient lights, utility lights in the bar areas, and all effects lamps.

All my band's stage lighting is LED, too, and this saves not only on electricity but also means we are not cooking under the lights as we used to. The lights are also more robust, and you don't need to wait for them to cool down before moving them.

I guess there will always be some Luddites who prefer to spend an extra 80% on their lighting bills.
And reduce their heating bills at the same time. Of course missing the point of free citizens unreasonably being dictated to, is inevitably going to be achieved by some.
Halogen bulbs are inefficient and costly. LED's can replace any Halogen bulb use 70% less power and cost less to buy. Why are you worried about this?
There are direct replacement LED bulbs available for any Halogen fitting , so just put an LED in whatever fittings you have.
I had a halogen desk lamp. The heat was irresistible to one of my moggies and she managed to set fire to her rump after 'sunbathing' under it. She is long haired and was totally oblivious (not very bright) but it just singed the fur. I got a new lamp.

I knew that they got hot, but didn't realise just how hot.

Why would anyone not be worried about being pushed around with unnecessary legislation, just there to give those who create it an ego boost ? Why would anyone feel that because it can be complied with then that makes it acceptable ?
