Onwards and Downwards Continues in August 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

The long hot summer holidays are here and I know some of you are entertaining young folk at home. This can make it tricky to keep an eye on your in-take. But here are some tasty kid friendly snacks that are also annoyingly healthy:

For a savory snack try this yummy looking lemon and coriander houmous served with chopped vegetable sticks or bread sticks:

These instant frozen berry treats look easy to make as well:

Even easier are these make your own spring rolls:

and you could swap in other veg and ingredients.

And of course, simply leaving out a plate of chopped up veg and fruit like apples, carrots, cucumber and grapes, can seem to disappear without them even noticing they are eating healthily ;-)

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

sympathies OG I agree about the water and when it gets boring add a dash of low sugar cordial. When you're shopping buy a few things for these very moments. Like a ounnet of strawberries or an apple, or a few low fat snacks. If you don't have anything you're more likely to eat something inappropriate! Otherwise its a case of finding a distraction if just a walk...

Thank you ab auntie and for the recipes x
Thanks again Auntie,

Just a word to the wise...those delicious grapes are just that because they are propped full of sugar, so best to save them for a special treat.

I`m not sure that started a low carb diet so soon after being bereaved was a good idea. I`ve been in floods of tears for the last couple of days. There seems to be conflicting advice about whether it causes depression but maybe it`s not the best time for me. I`ll give it another couple of days and see how it goes.
237sj Sorry to hear that and yes it would be a good idea to have a little more time for yourself as you might get depressed . Please come back when you feel better and let us know how you are doing .take care .
Pleased to report that I had my weekly weigh in yesterday at WW and have lost another 3 lbs.
Well done maggibee keep up the good work .
Well done Maggiebee
Stayed exactly the same !
Good luck to the rest of you.
Completely forgot . Must get back to paying more attention . Don't feel I have gained probably stayed the same . Well done for a no gain this week OG .
I`m about to officially give up the low carb diet in a minute when I eat a pizza. I can`t stand the low mood that it has given me. It`s all about tryptophan and seratonin. Maybe I`ll start back on the origianl WW points diet...tomorrow
Any time you switch from high to low carb, you need to expect a period of adjustment. Your body is switching from burning carbs as fuel to burning fat. There is the so-called carb flu...headache,fatigue... feeling generally rubbish. If you are emotionally depressed it may be best to give yourself time. But switching away from carbs will always be best for your body in the long run.
I didn`t have carb flu. I just felt bereft.
I didn`t really eat a high carb diet either. One piece of toast and some mashed potato of an evening was about it. Low carbs might work for some people but they didn`t work for me.
Good morning All,

My number one priority this weekend is to find a new place for the scales. The old place no longer works as the bathroom has been made into a wet room.

I've started taking my first unaided steps this week so there is no stopping me now.

I was weighed at training. Even though it was with clothes on and after I'd eaten the result spelled out naughty step for me. :-((
Wet room ? You need to put the scales into a sealed plastic bag ;-)

C'est la vie. Take the one off hit and you'll be back on the losing trail again no problem.

Thanks for the support OG.
After a few stay the sames it has caught up with me . I know exactly what I have done wrong . That cakes looked lonely and my breadmaker has been working .1 lb gain off to the naughty step.
Well stayed the same is avoiding the gain Wend. Look at that as a win.

Meanwhile the scales claim I have gone down 0.2 lbs. But only because of a mystery drop of 1 lb over the last 24 hours ! Mystery jump up Thursday and back down again Tuesday ???
Good afternoon all,

Hi to you two "samers". Better than a gain but not a feel good either.

I've asked at training if I can get weighed once a week and the answer was yes, but remind us, which I promptly forgot to do so I hope I can remember on Friday.
