'We were on a break' - FRIENDS.

I was wondering what people think 'on a break' actually means. For those of you who watch FRIENDS, when Ross and Rachel were on a break and he slept with some one else. Using that as an example, what are your definitions of it. Is it ok to sleep with other people if your on a break, or would you still see yourself as in a relationship that is just a bit rocky. Im not in this situation, but was watching Friends last night and cant decide who is in the right/wrong in this situation. I hope this all makes sense, if not, let me know!!!

i think if you're on a break it means you taking time away from each other to get your head straight but plan to continue with the relationship.

therefore i personally feel its wrong to then sleep with someone else. plus if they are wanting to sleep with someone else, this to me, suggests the relationship is pretty much over anyway.

I think i agree with you MiniN, i mean, if you were really in love, then you wouldnt want to sleep around in the first place, you would want to work on the relationship to make it better. But at the same time, is it really classed as cheating????!!! its hard!!!!! I think it just depends on the couple and the situation.

I think a break mean if you aint seen your partner for a couple of hours..

I think it depends on the break. During a break of, say, 3 months, I would understand my partner sleeping with someone else (I'd still be hurt, but I'd understand). But a break of one night? C'mon!

Breaks are to decide what you want from the relationship- how is sleeping with someone else goig to help? If anything it'll just make things more confusing. Although couples should agree the terms of a break e.g.) if its ok to go on dates, sleep with or even kiss other people, how often they are going to be in contact with each other. This way both parties know whats going on and no sily mistakes will be made

To me a break means broken-up! It seems people say lets take a break when all they want to do is see if there is anything better out there. It's BS!!!! Nothing good can come of that in my mind. If my guy and i went on a break and he slept with someone else, she had better be the one cause he could just damn well stay with her.

I think it's the dating equivalent to married people being seperated. They don't go the whole hog and go for a divorce because there's still a chance, however slim, that the rift can be mended and the marriage can be saved. Even if that was the case those seperated individuals still have certain needs so seeing other people is back on the menu (whether it was verbally agreed by the seperated couple or not.)
